Get a taste for Lake Superior on a guided three day trip

New to sea kayaking or don’t have the time for a full length expedition? A three day weekend trip is a great way to experience the beauty of Lake Superior close to home. We offer these shorter trips out of Rossport, Neebing, and Porphyry Island – all locations offer ample opportunity to explore dramatic geology, island beaches and wild campsites within a short drive from Thunder Bay.

Want to improve your paddling and rescue skills while you are out there? Combine a three day trip with our Lake Superior Starter Course. In this course you will learn valuable techniques to improve your paddling skills and rescue techniques, as well as journeying and seamanship, while spending two nights camping on the lake. This is a great way to take your paddling and backcountry camping skills to the next level!

Day #1 we would meet and our departure point (Rossport, Neebing or other) at 9am and return by 4pm on day #3. If you require different timings please get in touch with us and we can adapt to your schedule as best that we can.

We will discuss route with group beforehand to decide if we paddle out and basecamp for 2 nights or pack up and paddle to two different campsites. Itineraries will be highly dependent on weather and the individual goals and ability of each group. Group size is maximum of 8 participants with a 1:4 guide to participant ratio.

Some kind of protection from the cold waters of Lake Superior are necessary for this trip. If you are interested in skills we recommend renting a drysuit but if you more interested in just getting out there a wetsuit would do you fine.

Please select the appropriate Add-Ons when making your reservation:

  • Drysuits are $30/day and wetsuits are $10/day additional cost for this program.
  • $15 Battle Island Light tower entrance fee held in trust by SAND and given directly to the Friends of Battle Island organization (Rossport Only)
